Internet Marketing

Everyone is a Media Company. Period.

12th January 2015

“Every one of you is a media company,” Gary Vaynerchuk sez. And I agree with him.

No matter how you hate it, but if we don’t have the ability to market our personal brands or our products, we won’t be able to sell our services or products, no matter how cool they are.

It sucks, I know. But unfortunately, that’s the way it is.

Why a media company?

The cold, hard truth is, today, you need to promote your business in order to get yours noticed – more than ever.

You see, “Just build it and they will come” is silly. It’s a guarantee that you will fail.

You need to promote yourself and/or your business. And in doing so, you are becoming a media company.

How to be a media company?

One of the ways to do it is via content creation and content marketing. You don’t need to employ two, three or even a hundred employees to be a media company.

If you can create content to promote your business, then you are a media company. If you can create content in your blog to promote your resume, then you are a media company. If you can create content for others, then you are a media company.

And the good news is, today, content is not about writing articles and blog posts. I know that writing is not many people’s forte. Thanks to social media, what’s called “content” is no longer text-based.

If you feel that you are suck in crafting words, but a pro in digital imaging, try creating graphical content: Infographics, graphic quotes, emojis, etc.

Are you good with animation and videos? Then creating animated GIFs, 6-second Vine videos or explainer videos can boost your business.

There are 1,001 ways to create content for your business. Choose at least one you are good at.

Focusing on content? That’s rubbish!

Okay, fair enough. Let this man rants it out for you:

It’s a fact, and it will become more prevalent in the coming years: If you are not putting up content, your brand will be drowned by the waves of content created by businesses, entrepreneurs and marketers.

Okay – I still don’t get it. Has anyone done it?

Yes, whether they realize it or not. And you know what, more and more people are starting to realize it – which make things difficult if you are adopting the wait-and-see strategy:

Every company is media company

Content marketing is a growing trend that will dominate not only this year, but also years to come.

Just like what Gary Vaynerchuk wrote in his blog post:

“The faster your business realizes that it’s a media company, the more likely it will be to succeed in 2020, in 2025, in 2030… in my humble opinion.”

So, just jump into the bandwagon. If you want a better chance for success, that is.
